April is National Volunteer Month

“Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve,” said Martin Luther King. At Second Harvest, we get to spend time with some pretty great people… thousands of them, in fact.

They are our volunteers. They sort food, inspect eggs, assist with food drives, pack boxes, and give tirelessly and kindly to support our mission. April is National Volunteer Month and it is a great reminder that much of the work that makes our communities stronger and better happens because of people who give their time to make it so. Volunteers makes Second Harvest tick.

April is also a special time because we get to nominate some of our most dedicated volunteers for the annual Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards! This year, we have nominated five volunteers/volunteer groups for this honor, and we hope that you will join us in voting for them, too!

Meet our 2018 nominees and cast your vote! A link to vote is at the end of each story.

Tireless and Dedicated: Food Bank volunteers Gwen and Warren get things done.

Through Giving, We Grow: Steven and Steve Jones

They Really DO Make Great Neighbors: Why we love Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices volunteers
