Imagine the challenges of trying to feed your family day after day with no refrigerator or freezer. Amazingly, this is the situation in which many local food assistance organizations find themselves.
Though these programs are helping hundreds of food insecure families each month, many are doing so with little to no capacity to store healthy, fresh or fresh frozen foods.
Second Harvest Food Bank works with over 450 partner programs that are doing the on-the-ground work of feeding community. Without them, the 72 tons (yes, tons!) of food we move each day across 18 counties might never make it to the plates of the families that need it. Many are small and run entirely by volunteers. They are church and school pantries, soup kitchens, senior meal programs and children’s back pack programs. They do an amazing amount of work with very little, and today you can help them do even more.
A Chance to Do Double the Good
Giving Tuesday kicks off an opportunity to do double the good for our partners working on the frontlines to help struggling families put food on the table.
The $10,000 grand total will be used to provide micro grants to our partners to purchase refrigerators and freezers, and this will mean more fresh, healthy foods for families in need.
