Food Brings Us Together

Whew! The holiday season sure seems to have arrived early this year. Mind you, at Second Harvest Food Bank, we look forward to this special time for many families, and for our organization, too.

For families, among other things, it’s a time for gathering and preparing favorite family recipes, much to the glee of those who look forward to having them back on the table, year after year. Food brings us together.

For Second Harvest, helping families set their tables with wholesome meals and favorite family recipes is our daily work. The need for food assistance among local families remains significantly heightened in the face of on-going economic and public health crises. We are grateful to be working alongside our volunteers, families just like yours, as we continue to do our best to make sure that everyone in our community has the food they need to prepare and share meals with the important people in their lives. Food brings us together.

Next year at this time, Second Harvest will (we hope) be in our new home, as we officially mark 40 years of bringing people together around food, a basic need we all share that is essential to our ability to be focused and productive in our lives and present for our children. We look forward to setting the table for your visit to our new home. Meanwhile, our daily work continues, as food brings us together in community for our community.

Looking for ways to give back this holiday season. Here’s how you can help:

  • Even the smallest gift can have a huge impact. Every $10 you give can provide up to 70 meals for a child, a senior, a family, a neighbor. Make a gift.

  • You are welcome at our home. Why not fill out our volunteer application and see what opportunities there are to lend a hand? There’s no commitment, but it’s a great first step to getting involved.

  • Host a virtual food drive and recipe exchange. Second Harvest’s Virtual Food Drive tool makes it easy to reach out to friends and family and do something meaningful together, even if you are apart.

  • Share the stories of Second Harvest’s mission and impact on your social channels. You never know who you might inspire to get involved.

  • Honor friends and family members with a gift that feeds community… in more ways than one. We’ll send a card letting them know that a gift has been made in their honor.
