Reaching Neighbors Where They Are

Access to food should not depend on where someone lives.
But across Northwest North Carolina, geography, transportation, and distance can all shape what’s within reach.
That’s why Second Harvest works alongside a network of more than 500 partners—along with mobile food pantries and community distribution efforts—to help ensure food reaches neighbors where they are.
Because access matters. And connection is part of that access.
Meeting the Moment, Close to Home
In communities across our 18-county region, food distribution doesn’t happen in just one place. It happens:
In rural communities where grocery stores may be miles away
Through trusted local partners who know their neighbors
At mobile distributions that bring fresh food directly into communities
These are not just points of distribution. They are points of connection.
More Than a Distribution
When food reaches a community, it does more than meet an immediate need.
It creates:
Stability for families
Relief in uncertain moments
A sense of being seen and supported
And it strengthens the network of relationships that makes this work possible in the first place.
A Partnership That Extends Reach
Support from Walmart, the Walmart Foundation, and Sam’s Club helps make this work possible—ensuring that food can move efficiently and consistently across our region.
Through the Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign, that reach expands even further—helping connect more neighbors with the food they need.
How You Can Take Part
From now through May 3, you can support this work by:
Purchasing participating items at Walmart or Sam’s Club
Making a donation at checkout or online
Sharing this campaign with others
Each action helps ensure that food continues to reach communities across Northwest North Carolina—where it’s needed most.
Food supports health. It creates opportunity. And it strengthens connection.
Together, we nourish what matters most.
In the weeks ahead, we’ll be sharing stories from across our region that show how food supports health, creates opportunity, and strengthens connection—made possible through this partnership. Stay tuned.
