Join Second Harvest, Walmart, Sam’s Club, and Feeding America in the Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign
This week, Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC is proud to launch our participation in the annual Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign—a nationwide effort that brings together Walmart, Sam’s Club, Feeding America, and local food banks to strengthen communities through access to food.
From April 6 through May 3, every purchase of participating items at Walmart and Sam’s Club, and every donation made at checkout or online, helps support food banks like Second Harvest and the work happening right here across Northwest North Carolina.
Because food is foundational. And when people have reliable access to nutritious food, everything else becomes more possible.
More Than Food
At Second Harvest, we see every day that food does more than fill a plate. It supports health.
It creates opportunity. It strengthens connection. It helps care for our shared environment.
That’s why this year, our campaign storytelling is centered on a simple idea: Together, we nourish what matters most.
Throughout the month, we’ll be sharing stories that reflect the full impact of this work across our region—made possible in part through the support of Walmart, the Walmart Foundation, and Sam’s Club.
What That Looks Like in Our Community
Across Northwest North Carolina, this partnership helps make possible: Food that supports health: Through nutrition education and access to fresh foods, families are building confidence in the kitchen and managing their health in meaningful ways.
Pathways to opportunity: Through workforce development programs like our culinary training, individuals are gaining skills, securing employment, and building long-term stability.
Stronger community connections: From mobile food pantries to partner agencies in rural areas, food is reaching neighbors where they are—helping ensure access doesn’t depend on geography.
Care for people and the planet: Through food rescue and redistribution, surplus food is redirected to families instead of going to waste—benefiting both communities and the environment.
These are not separate efforts. They are connected. And they reflect what’s possible when communities come together around something as essential as food.
A Campaign Powered by Community
This work happens year-round—but this campaign is a moment to expand it.
When you shop at Walmart or Sam’s Club and purchase participating items, or choose to give at checkout, you are helping extend that impact across our region.
It’s a simple action with real, local reach.
Watch and Share
We’re launching this year’s campaign with a short video that captures one of these stories in action—offering a closer look at how food, partnership, and community come together to create lasting impact.
How to Take Part
From April 6 through May 3, you can support this work by:
Donating at checkout at Walmart or Sam’s Club.
Buying participating products, and brands will contribute to the cause.
Giving online to Second Harvest through the campaign. (All gifts stay local.)
Sharing this campaign with others
Every action helps ensure that more neighbors have access to the food they need—and the opportunity that comes with it.
At a time when too many families are navigating difficult choices, this work matters. And it continues because communities like ours choose to be part of it.
Together, we nourish what matters most—today and for the future.
