As the heightened need for food assistance brought on by the pandemic continues, Second Harvest Food Bank and our dedicated on-the-ground partner agencies are working hard to ensure all neighbors can access the healthy food they need. We cannot do this important work alone. We need people like you to keep doing all that you are able to do to support the important work of feeding our community. HEIGHTENED NEED IN OUR COMMUNITIES Feeding America reports that 42 million people—one in eight individuals in America—could experience food insecurity in 2021 due to the ongoing economic fallout from COVID-19. In the 18 counties served by our food bank, one in six people could find themselves struggling to afford all of the food they need.
No one should have to choose between paying for groceries or bills, yet many families are experiencing these tough choices for the very first time in their lives. This is why Walmart and Sam’s Club are coming together with their supplier partners, customers, members and Feeding America® member food banks to Fight Hunger. Spark Change. The Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign makes it easy for customers and members to participate and support the work of the nation's food banks, including Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC! Fight Hunger. Spark Change will run in stores/clubs and online from April 5 – May 3, 2021.
There are three easy ways for customers and members to participate to support their local food bank:
Donate at check-out in stores and clubs, or at either FeedingAmerica.org/Walmart or FeedingAmerica.org/SamsClub.
Round-up at check-out on Walmart.com and the Walmart pp.
For every participating product purchased in store or online at Walmart.com or SamsClub.com, the supplier will donate the monetary equivalent of at least one meal on behalf of a Feeding America member food bank at Walmart and five meals ($0.50) at Sam’s Club, up to applicable limits. To date, the campaign has helped to secure more than 1 billion meals* for local food banks across the country.
The work of fighting hunger means more than providing food to our neighbors in need. It means feeding the opportunity for people to be the best version of themselves. When everyone works together, life gets better, communities become stronger, and real and lasting change can be made.
