Allegacy Federal Credit Union humbly contacted Second Harvest Food Bank recently to let us know they were doing “a little holiday decorating project” at their offices that would benefit our mission of feeding families in Northwest North Carolina.
What began as a simple email suggestion from Allegacy team member Heather Garcia to make the office festive for the holidays, turned into a full-scale winter wonderland. “Our goal was to bring in a few hundred dollars to donate to Second Harvest,” she explained, as she handed us a check for nearly three times that amount. “It turns out people were really, really into it.”
Heather says that the friendly office competition brought out the creative sides of her colleagues as well as let them learn more about each other. “I had no idea a colleague of mine was from Hawaii originally until his entire cubicle was decorated in a Hawaiian Christmas theme! It’s been a great way to get to know each other, have some fun, and do it all for a good cause.”
“I know and we know that the holidays are not an easy time for so many local people. It’s our hope that some of our cheer along with the money we raised can make a difference.”
We at Second Harvest guarantee that it will.
“Second Harvest is inspired by Allegacy’s employee engagement and their commitment to helping advance our mission feeding our neighbors in need during the holiday season,” says Carolyn Breese, Director of Development and Community Relations at Second Harvest. “The compassion of our community is limitless.”
At Second Harvest we love to see the creative ways that local businesses support our mission work. From creating sculptures out of canned goods to decorating contests to essay contests, many groups launch friendly competitions to raise food or funds to support the food bank.
