Year in Review: Feeding Futures

“I hope you tell all the other kids about it.”

That’s what a young boy said to the volunteers at the food pantry located in his school. He had come to the pantry the night before with his family and, he explained, he and his brother both got their own piece of meat on their plates for dinner that night. The volunteers assured him they would.

At Second Harvest Food Bank, we believe that every child in Northwest North Carolina should have enough to eat— every meal, every day. That is why our Childhood Hunger Programs team works to administer and help grow programs specifically designed to meet children’s needs.

In addition to the children’s programs that we support with both food and the expertise we have garnered from years of experience, we also advocate for children. We meet with elected officials and support policies that would help to ensure children have access to the nutritious, healthy food they need.

We believe that the health of our children is a barometer for the health of our society at large. We know that hungry children cannot focus, learn or grow. We know that their future and our collective future depends on how well we care for them today.

Will you help feed children and feed futures with a gift to Second Harvest?
